We gave it our all. We did everything recommended to upkeep and maintain the rooftop tent. You can read about our endeavors in Fixing the Car Tent.
However, before we could get out to field test the tent, a final crushing issue revealed itself.
The thick rubber material which covers the tent when it is in the closed position, was also wetting through. Badly.
We could see no way around this or find any recommendations on how to fix it. The only thing to do would be to contact Yakima and see if we could get it replaced.
But even if we did get a new cover, it would not withstand the freezing temperatures that we often find ourselves in.
This was the devastating blow that broke our trust in the Yakima SkyRise HD rooftop tent.
To make our decision easier, the ladder gave out from underneath us while debating our options. It was the confirmation we needed to make the hard decision to part with our beloved tiny home.
Our only option was to return the tent to REI, luckily we were able to receive a full refund with their wonderful policies.
Shortly after returning the tent, we noticed that REI stopped selling this particular tent..
We are devastated. Eli feels naked. And we are having difficulties trying to replace the tent with the now wobbly roof rack that needs to be fully replaced.
Despite these challenges we are still determined to find a travel size tiny home setup that works for us.
